Dan Moynihan Goes to Hell

In and Out, No Funny Business
Dan Moynihan

May 30 – June 20 2009

Opening Friday May 29, 6pm til late
Music by DJ Leo Francis + BBQ

One of the greatest tricks the devil ever pulled was… just after smoko! Dan Moynihan’s latest exhibition In and Out, No Funny Business introduces us to two of his lesser-known passions; the heist movie genre and a fascination with lunchroom architecture and etiquette. Rolling on from the mountainous ambition displayed in his previous project (Still Sitting Still , Utopian Slumps, Jan 2009), Moynihan has devised elaborate ways for the installation to sprawl beyond the confines of the gallery. Dan’s multi-layered installations persistently attempt to hammer holes in reality, providing his audience a peek of alternative worlds. Perhaps even a walk through if it all goes according to plan.

Nick Devlin Goes To Hell

Nick Devlin
Portrait series #4: 33 1/3
May 2 – May 23 2009
Opening Friday 1st May, 6pm til late

Nick Devlin began his series of portrait projects in the year 2000, when he painstakingly depicted 100 images of perpetrators and criminals. This was followed by 100 portraits of artists in 2005. In 2007 he turned to authors. 33 1/3 is his latest instalment, consisting of 33 1/3 likenesses of musicians. Nick’s procession of human subjects are chosen as much for their flaws as for their accomplishments. His portraits en-mass are a stark homage to the exiled and revered of society; their flairs and failings.

The portraits display an equal regard for the methodical process of portraiture. The disciplined banality of such a project speaks of the failures of representation as well as the futility of trying to capture the human condition. A Beckett-like game that blurs the line between winners and losers, fame and its followers.

GET OAK FIRMNESS AT HELL

Friday April 24, 6pm til late, one night only!

Stimulus Package
performed by Renny Kodgers
Lets Get Boweried
performed by Nat Thomas and Concettina Inserra.
As part of
GET OAK FIRMNESS
curated by Elvis Richardson
Live Music by Music vs Physics and DJ Arsey Ajax

Renny Kodgers and the collaborative duo Nat Thomas and Concettina Inserra conduct a night of performance exploring the expectations, power functions and romantic notions of the penis. The Oak tree known for its long growing hard wood and majestic presence is a universal symbol of strength and endurance. In the swollen promises of email spam and miracle products, the power to erect larger dimensions of the penis is the embodiment of manhood in redevelopment. This is where the GET OAK FIRMNESS show begins.
